JW McDonald Kitchens & Bathrooms see a lot of kitchen fitting, kitchen remodeling or kitchen refurbishment quotes and they all vary vastly. Our aim in this article is to we want pass on some helpful information that may just be of help to you, assisting you getting a better idea of costing.
The main cost of any kitchen refurbished, remodeling or full renovation costing is the labour and the kitchen itself. We can supply and fit your kitchen for you with our very good discounts, however if you want to buy your own kitchen, of course we can just provide the kitchen installation or kitchen fitter service by itself.
We see a lot of the kitchen companies will try to appear to their retail audience saving them money on the kitchen, they do this by giving the client the choice of cheaper options that will reduce the overall cost of the kitchen. This can be an ambiguous grey area, so we want to highlights some pitfalls to these options.
Often the first choice is to option that your kitchen come as flat pack or we call it build it yourself kitchen. This will mean that everything comes in flat boxed pieces and the kitchen fitter will have to assemble the base units and wall units. This saves the kitchen supplier money and they pass some of this savings to you the customer but what they will not tell you as they are not aware or ignore is that the kitchen fitter will charge more to make up the kitchen that comes flat pack.
The cost of building the kitchen units can vary and will more than likely cost more than the savings you thought you made.
Our advice is to always get an estimated cost for both so you can see if you have made any savings. We always charge more to make a flat pack kitchen and this leads to a lot of disappointment. The quality is sometimes compromised, parts are missing and that causes delays as items are not always available locally to collect. In fact the cost in building can cost you more than you saved buying the kitchen from the supplier compared to another supplier who provided an assembled kitchen.
The second cost saving we see is when the kitchen suppliers say to save money on the door hinges, draw sliding mechanism’s and soft closer’s. This is more of a personal choice and in our opinion the functionality of the kitchen is always compromised as well as the longevity of the components are cheap and not so well made.
