I wanted to share our experiences about helping guide a client who needed to use our kitchen fitter service’s to install a new kitchen complete but this kitchen had integrated appliances which is main focus of my advice.
The client wanted the kitchen in the same location which can bring some challenges for any kitchen fitter. The original kitchen had an integrated washing machine already installed but the door was missing. We thought that this could have been reinstated but maybe some parts where missing.
When installing new washing machine for the kitchen in the same location some checks have to be completed to make sure we have good drainage. When the new kitchen units had been installed to the kitchen plan specifications I tried to install the new washing machine.
The new washing machine was an integrated machine so this should have been a straight swop. On this occasion I found that the washing machine would not go back enough to allow the integrated washing machine door line up flush with the rest of the kitchen base unit doors.
I tried to find the extra 20mm I needed but to no avail this was not possible so I had to pull it all out again to investigate. I found that in order to get the extra 20mm the 40mm waste pipe will need to be chased into the wall or move the sink location closer to the soil stack.
HOW TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BELOW:
1) The installation of the pipe in the wall is least expensive option but if you have a single skin brick or block wall this is not always the best option.
2) The other opinion is to change the sink base unit location but if the electrical sockets are already installed this option could breach some electrical regulation and all the socket will need to be relocated.
3) This could cost a lot of money so the other opinion is to pull the kitchen base units forward which will leave 20mm gap at the back of the worktop.
In my clients case unfortunately the kitchen units had already been moved forward.
It looked like the kitchen design was based on what they could see without the kitchen being removed. The worktops had already been cut so the decision had to made to have a freestanding washing machine, which was going to be the best solution.
MY ADVICE
When you are choosing integrated appliance please make sure that you have no obstructions behind the washing machine or any other appliances as this will push the appliance door forward and out of line with the other kitchen base unit doors.
We also had a single skin wall which stopped us from installing the waste pipe in the wall.
