JW McDonald Kitchens & Bathrooms have completed many wet room installations in the Forest Hill and South London area. We had a new client ask for our bathroom fitting and wet room installation services.
When we start any wet room installation the most important thing is the preparation but the key thing for me is the tanking of the walls and floor.
The tanking of the wet room can be completed in different way and most wet room installers have their own tried and tested methods. The method we like to use is the layering method with the Topps Tiles waterproof matting on a role.
If you are installing the waterproof matting the best method we find is to start from the floor and work up the walls but over lapping the waterproof matting by about 100mm each time and continuing up to the ceiling.
If it’s a stud wall always use cement boards first specially in the main shower area and use Wedi boards everywhere else.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Always apply the waterproof matting with the slow set powder base adhesive and a 6mm tooth towel.
When we install the matting with the over lapping method we have had 100% success rate because the water always falls down the walls and where the matting has been over lapped 100mm the water can not penetrate through the matting
The use of powder base adhesive is the best water proof adhesive used in conjunction with the cement boards, Wedi boards as well as the matting is a brilliant combination for wet room tanking.
